Recipes: Natural Bath & Body Products For Kids

Picture this: sweet sudsy faces, playful splashes, and lots of giggles. That’s the sight of bath time done right!

Bath time can be pure joy or a struggle, depending on many factors. But it’s part of life as we know it, so let’s dive in and chat through some super simple (and oh-so fun) diy bath & body products for kiddos.

For starters, the products you use can contribute to the fun or cause chaos while getting kids squeaky clean after a long day of play.

Do you remember bath time as a kid? Soap in the eyes is a major no-no! To help your mini-me feel happy and more at ease, it’s important to choose clean ingredients to reduce teary-eyed drama.

By making your own natural, safe products with your kiddos, you’re already winning the bath time game. Our team has tried and tested these kid-approved, safe recipes below and we got the thumbs up!

Making diy bath products for kids can be a fun, yet educational experience. Make them part of the process by teaching them to measure, scoop, pour, and blend -- all useful skills to practice and learn hands on.

Your kids will find this activity rewarding and have so much fun ‘soaking’ up that bonding time with a parent or with a sibling.

Regardless, the making of kid-appropriate products will lead to tear-free outcomes, and control over the ingredients. Can you say “game changer?” Let’s get making!

naturally tear-free shampoo and body wash recipe

Our liquid soapnut natural surfactant has been verified as a “tear-free” ingredient when used at 5% or less.

This makes it easy for you to create an all-natural, gentle, tear-free all-in-one wash.

You can use it as a shampoo for kids or as a body wash. It works equally well for both functions.

Below you’ll find two recipes to make this product.

The first recipe starts with a premade base and the second recipe includes ingredients to make your own from scratch.

If you’re interested in making your own product from a premade base start here.

Note: this version will not foam as much as the version below, but it provides the exact same tear-free cleansing power.

Makes (3) 12oz bottles

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a pitcher or large mixing bowl, combine 38oz of all-natural serum serum base and 2oz of liquid soapnut natural surfactant and mix by hand until evenly distributed.
  2. Bottle up your creation and give yourself a round of applause! You just made this from scratch! Easy peezy lemon squeezy!

If you’re interested in making your own product from scratch start here.

Note: you won’t use all of each ingredient so you can make more batches at a reduced cost. For every 2 oz of liquid soapnut natural surfactant you can make 40 oz (2.5lbs) of product.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a microwave safe dish or glass (~4 oz or larger) combine 2 oz of organic flax glycerin and 0.4oz of pure xanthan gum and mix with a clean utensil until the xanthan gum is dissolved in the glycerin and a uniform opaque gel is formed.
  2. Note: if you opted to include aloe vera gel concentrate 40X add 1 oz of this in your glycerin/xanthan mixture.
  3. Once you have a consistent gel, add 36 oz of filtered water (~4.5 cups) to your pitcher or large mixing bowl, and microwave for 30 seconds or until warm to the touch.
  4. Note: if you included aloe vera gel, add only 35 oz of filtered water (4 ⅜ cups)
  5. Add your gel from step 1 to your water while mixing, and mix with your White stick blender until a clump free gel forms.
  6. Note: if you don’t have an electric mixer, stir by hand for 5-10 minutes until clumps decrease in size.  Cover your mixture and allow it to sit for 18-24 hours. Mix every 3-4 hours for best results.  (the xanthan will dissolve slowly over time)
  7. Add 2 oz of liquid soapnut natural surfactant and your 10 ml emulsitec plant based preservative  mix gently by hand until evenly mixed.
  8. Bottle it up! You just made this from scratch and it’s ready to enjoy!

diy everyday lotion & sudsy soap bars recipe

The best lotions for young skin are highly moisturizing while also retaining a light texture so as not to clog pores!

Our favorite all-around moisturizer for little ones is our soothing calendula lotion base.

Loaded with exotic oils and butters from acai, passion fruit, and calendula, this lotion base is hydrating to the skin and helps to reinforce the skin barrier.

Also, calendula is a great ingredient for soothing inflamed or irritated skin!  Combine this base with 1-2% of any of our fragrance oils to make a perfect daily moisturizer for your little one!

When it comes to soap, any of our melt & pour soap bases make for an entertaining and kid-friendly DIY project. We love the shea goat milk melt + pour soap base, because of its creamy texture and hydrating ingredients.

Be sure to check out our collection of silicone molds to find all kinds of fun shapes. Pair a cool shape (like this succulent mold) with a yummy kid-approved fragrance oil for a perfect bathtime treat.

Happy making!
